[video opens with an animated panel from the "Identity Inverclyde" project's graphic novel, where two young children look on while The Archivist (bald, long white beard, robe made up of pages from books) stares at them ominously, as "Name thy novel!" appears on screen]
ARCHIVIST: If you want to have a look, first you have to name the book ... and upon this novel, look you must, so be the one to name it first.
["Make your choice ... Penned from the Grave: The Archivist's Treasure / Written in Dust: The Archivist's Treasure" appears on screen]

From blogspot.com:

Identity is a heritage lottery fund project which will explore the experiences of migrants passing through or settling in Inverclyde. These histories, stories, songs, and traditions will be brought back to life through a series of publications and events over the next 18 months...

We're delighted to announce we'll be launching the Graphic Novel written by ourselves and local schools on Saturday 8 September in The Dutch Gable House as part of Doors Open Day. Don't worry, we'll remind you again...

GRAPHIC Novel Is Blast From The Past
Friday, 07 September 2012

The Identity project has been working with community groups, volunteers and schools to chart and record the history of migration in Inverclyde as part of an 18 month Heritage Lottery fund project. Already the project has run a number of exhibitions and staged a drama at the Greenock Sugar Sheds.

This weekend, the project launches a 64-page graphic novel -- The Archivist's Treasure -- which blends artwork and old images of Inverclyde to explore the area's past in different way.

The project team worked with 13 schools to produce the book which features the mysterious Archivist guiding two pupils around his museum of memories. The research, design and illustration were all undertaken by young people employed through Inverclyde Council's Future Jobs programme, which is managed by Inverclyde Community Development Trust.

The book will be available free of charge to visitors to The Dutch Gable House in William Street, open this Saturday and Sunday (10am to 4pm each day) as part of Doors Open Days, and will also be made available to download online later in the month.

Project funders, Heritage Lottery Fund, are keen to hear from Inverclyde groups with other heritage project ideas. Interested groups can find out more by contacting Development Officer Louise Hastie directly on LouiseH [at] hlf.org.uk.

From blogspot.com:

As part of the Identity project I manage at work, the project team team spent winter and spring working with local schools to produce a graphic novel based on the heritage of our home town. The whole project was funded by Heritage Lottery Fund Scotland. Pulling it all together over the summer has been one of those occasions when work hasn't felt like work at all. The results look great, and the 64 page book, "The Archivist's Treasure", will be distributed FREE as part of Doors Open Day at our new project The Dutch Gable House.

I got to write the framing sequence at the start and the end of the book, along with this wee story below, which is illustrated by local artist Andrew Lever. The version in the graphic is actually slightly different, so that means I can call this an EXCLUSIVE. If you want a copy of the graphic, and you are unlucky enough NOT to be in Greenock at The Dutch Gable House that weekend, have no fear, as it will be available online via online comic distributer graphicly later in the month.
