Presenting ... The Fastest Librarian in the West!
UNM Health Sciences Library and Information Center

[scene opens with black and white footage of a man (dressed like a cowboy) and a woman (wearing a turn-of-the-century dress and bonnet) walking down a dirt road]
[cut to a "rattlesnake" coiled up in the road, when it leaps up and "strikes" (thanks to someone off camera pulling it with a string)]
[cut to the man falling down]
MAN: Ooh, he got me!
[cut to the woman gasping in fright, then back to the man as he grabs his leg]
MAN: I'm feeling nausea ... Muscle fasciculation ... Tachypnea ... Tachycardia ...
[cut back to the woman, as the sounds of hoofbeats can be heard, so she takes a handkerchief out of her basket and flags down the unseen horseman]
[cut to an older male librarian sitting atop a horse]
LIBRARIAN: Let me put you outta your misery, pilgrim ...
[he reaches for his gun holster, but (instead of a pistol) he pulls out a smartphone and looks up "snake bit" on the PubMed Mobile site]
LIBRARIAN: PubMed says them one's ain't poisonous ... You'll pull through.
[he pulls on the reins, and his horse gallops off towards the sunset]
WOMAN: Who was that stranger?
MAN: I don't know, but he left this mighty fine triangular pen what says "Free MEDLINE" on it ...
[cut to a closeup of the pen in his hands, as "Visit www dot nlm dot nih dot gov" appears on screen]

"The Fastest Librarian in the West"
First Runner-Up

Tragedy strikes a pioneer couple in the Old West. Disaster is averted by the providential appearance of a mysterious stranger who uses the ultimate weapon - the most current biomedical information - to save the day. This powerful saga, filmed on location in Peralta, New Mexico, uses breath-taking scenery, hard charging steeds, heart-wrenching sufferings, sudden plot twists, and finely observed period costumes to create an uplifting and life-affirming message - the ineluctable victory of knowledge over ignorance.
