MouseSpace: Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. 2008 Librareo Winner
2:00
This video won the 2008 Librareo national video contest. I think many librarians and teachers can identify with the plot!

[scene opens with a male school librarian sitting at the front desk, drinking his coffee and - apparently - feeling bored, when a young woman rushes into the room (knocking over several books) and begins talking in a very fast voice to the tune of Giachino Rossini's "William Tell Overture"]
TEACHER 1: I'm looking for this special book! About a mouse, last week I took! It to my classroom library nook! Do you knoooow which book I took!
LIBRARIAN: I do not know which book you took! Into your classroom library nook! Who was the mouse who wrote the book! If you knoooow, we can take a look!
TEACHER 1: I don't believe she wore a hat! She had big ears--
[cut to a closeup of the librarian wearing mouse ears]
TEACHER 1: No, not like that! This book was probably twelve by eight! I've got to get it, I'll be late!
[cut to the librarian holding up a book]
LIBRARIAN: This has a mouse without a hat! She does ballet and things like that! I don't want you to show up late! The second graders will not wait!
TEACHER 1: I have a class starting promptly at nine!
LIBRARIAN: No need to worry, we'll make it just fine!
[cut to the teacher sitting on the floor surrounded by a pile of books]
TEACHER 1: I believe she may live in a house!
LIBRARIAN: Is there any chance it's "Baby Mouse"?
TEACHER 1: It was not! I'm feeling rather faint!
LIBRARIAN: Could it be "Mouse Count" or maybe "Mouse Paint"?
[she sighs loudly]
LIBRARIAN: Could it be "Hooway for Wodney Wat"?
TEACHER 1: She doesn't have a tic like that! But you know, it could involve a cat! Maybe not, but the mouse was fat!
[he holds up a copy of "The Mouse and the Motorcycle"]
LIBRARIAN: Here's a book about a mouse who drives!
TEACHER 1: No!
[he holds up a copy of "The Mouse That Snored"]
LIBRARIAN: Snores!
TEACHER 1: No!
[he holds up another book]
LIBRARIAN: Goes to school and acts the fool?
TEACHER 1: No!
[he holds up another book with a wind-up mouse]
LIBRARIAN: This mouse winds up and rolls right by!
TEACHER 1: No!
[he holds up a copy of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie"]
LIBRARIAN: Eats?
TEACHER 1: No!
[he holds up a copy of "Doctor De Soto"]
LIBRARIAN: Drills teeth and is rather cool?
[she gets up]
TEACHER 1: No!
[another teacher (played by the same woman, only wearing glasses) suddenly runs into the library]
TEACHER 2: I'm looking for a certain book! So my whole class can take a look! It's about a mouse, not two feet down! It's something like "chrysanthemum"!
TEACHER 1: No wait, no wait, now it's come to me! I think she solved the mystery! It's Kevin Henkes' book, I know!
TEACHER 2: And the title has a purple bow!
TEACHER 1: At last, I know the boooook!
[she runs off]
TEACHER 2: Oh no, she wants my boooook!
[she runs off after her]
TEACHER 1: Kevin Henkes!
TEACHER 2: Kevin Henkes!
[cut to a closeup of the librarian]
LIBRARIAN: "Lilly's Puuuurple Plastic Purse"! Just one more verse! Can things get wooorse?
[cut to the teachers playing "tug of war" with the book and yelling at each other]
TEACHER 1 AND TEACHER 2: I want it for my class! I need it for my class!
LIBRARIAN: Ladies, can't we share?
TEACHER 1 AND TEACHER 2: No!
LIBRARIAN: [pause] I think I have another one!
TEACHER 1: Another one?
TEACHER 2: Another one?
[the school bell rings]
TEACHER 1: Gooooo get it! Time is running out!
TEACHER 2: I need that book without a doubt!
[he runs off, then returns with another copy of the book]
LIBRARIAN: "Lilly's Purple Plastic Puuuuurse"!
TEACHER 1 AND TEACHER 2: You found it on the final veeeeerse!
TEACHER 1: I'll be back to check it out!
[she runs off camera]
TEACHER 2: I'll be back to check it out!
[she runs off camera]
LIBRARIAN: Bu-bu-bu-bu-bu-bu-bu ...
[he shrugs, then smiles for the camera]
LIBRARIAN: Ta-daaaaaah!

Librareo Contest

We've entered a video into the Librareo video contest sponsored by Gale. The rules stated they wanted a 2 minute music video about a favorite book or author. We decided to put a video together based on our mutual experience in the school library. And so I present: MouseSpace!

This is my entry in the Librareo contest this year. The contest asked that you create a video expressing your love for a particular author or book. Mine has to do with an elementary book. Can you guess it before the end?

From schooltube.com:

I created this video which won the 2008 Librareo national video award. It tells the story of a classroom teacher in a hurry to get that special book for her class and the Librarian's efforts to find it. It's a musical!
